Stefan French is an award winning Irish film composer providing original music for film, television, and commercial media.

His film credits include I’d Kill For You (directed by Monika Wesley and produced by Los Angeles based Sobini Films. I’d Kill For You received it’s World Premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on June 8th 2016), An Ode to Love (produced by Oscar, BAFTA and Emmy nominated Brown Bag Films. Winner of Best Irish Animation at Foyle Film Festival 2014, and nominated for Best Animation at IFTA 2015), and the political drama The Guarantee (directed by Ian Power and produced by John Kelleher Media for TV3. Nominated at IFTA 2015 for Best Script). Previous commercial projects have included clients such as Intel, HP, Symantec, ShiSeido, Workday, Avaya, Align Technology, Miwadi and TV3 Ireland, as well as the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 spots for CableLabs' - The Near Future campaigns.

Most recently, Stefan composed the score for a new version of JM Barrie's 'Peter Pan', adapted by BAFTA winning Irish author Roddy Doyle for The Gate Theatre in Dublin. The soundtrack will be released on streaming platforms later in 2024.

In 2018, Stefan was nominated for the prestigious SABAM Award for 'Best Young International Composer' at the 18th World Soundtrack Awards. The compositions of the three nominees were performed live to picture by the Brussels Philharmonic, conducted by maestro Dirk Brossé, during the Awards Gala. Nominees in other categories included John Powell, Alexandre Desplat, John Williams, Ramin Djawadi, Kendrick Lamar, and Jóhann Jóhannsson, among others. The Academy Award nominated composer Carter Burwell, Film Composer of the Year in 2017, was the central guest.

In 2017, Stefan scored the powerful and moving Holocaust drama The Tattoo (directed by Ian Power and supported by the Irish Film Board. The Tattoo won Best Irish Short at the Foyle Film Festival which qualified it for Oscar® and BAFTA contention. Stefan received a nomination for Best Original Score at Fastnet Film Festival 2018). 2017 also saw Stefan working with Grammy and Emmy nominated composer Ryan Shore on the score for the virtual reality film Arden's Wake (Arden's Wake went on to win the Golden Lion for Best VR Film at the 74th Venice Film Festival, the first award of its kind recognizing this new medium in storytelling. The critically acclaimed film also screened at the Tribeca and Cannes Film Festivals).

Stefan has recorded and conducted his work on a number of the worlds leading scoring stages, including the Eastwood Scoring Stage at Warner Brothers, and the Newman Scoring Stage at Fox Studios, in Los Angeles. He has worked with the Hollywood Studio Symphony, the RTÉConcert Orchestra, the USC Thornton Symphony Orchestra, the Helix Collective, the Irish Film Orchestra, and the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, among others. His scores have been mixed and mastered at Windmill Lane Studios and Screen Scene Post Production in Dublin, and at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. 

In 2015, Stefan was 1 of 12 composers selected, following over 300 submissions worldwide, for the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles. As a result of his work during this prestigious workshop, he received the ‘Steve Kaplan Film and TV Award’ from the ASCAP Foundation in recognition of his talent and achievements as a film and TV composer. Notable past recipients of this award include Peter Bateman (Justice League, The Hunger Games, Maleficent), Matthew Margeson (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Eddie The Eagle), and Brian Byrne (Albert Nobbs, The Secret Scripture).

Stefan is a Fellow of the 2018 Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive, founded by David Newman and Angel Velez, and featuring guest faculty members Conrad Pope, William Ross, and Jorge Mester (ex Head of Conducting at The Juilliard School). He is an alumnus of the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles, the NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Program, the IMRO/RTE Film Scoring Program, the Hollywood Music Workshop in Vienna, and the 'Composition for Film and TV' online course at Berklee Music in Boston. He holds an MA in Scoring for Film and Visual Media (with the support of the 'Conrad Pope Scholarship') and a BA in Music Composition from the Dublin Institute of Technology.

Stefan is a member the Screen Composers Guild of Ireland, and IMRO. He is currently represented for commercial media in Ireland by Silverstream Music Ltd.
